:: Before the gig:
Around 18.00 my friend Maria and I arrived at the hostel, got our keys and started unpacking. Not long after, I got an sms from Danielle saying they (Danielle, Katja and their friend Mia) were on their way to the hostel as well. After spending the waiting time until they arrived opening bottles with a key ring thing, thus getting a finger completely sore when I finally succeeded after 10 minutes :-) (and of course drinking what was inside), we joined them in their room. Not long after Nikolaj (“Bjarne Goldbæk”) arrived too, and after spending some time talking and drinking beer, we set out for Train. In spite of Train being very close, we managed to get lost, but we finally got there, not long before Suede were to start; some annoying employee made me leave my bag at the wardrobe so I had to carry my camera around; we got ourselves something to drink; and we found some pretty good spots over to the left, some rows back from the stage.
:: Review: They actually started out with the new song, Love the Way You Love, and I took pride in noticing that it was much like I had imagined it might be. However, hearing it that one time didn’t make a good enough basis for good comments – but I made sure to pay good attention on Saturday, so more comments on the song there. Well, what can I say? It was just as great as it sounds! A couple are hits and more regularly played, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t nice to hear them!
Mostly it was a night of going “Ooooh!! Cool!!” all the time. I thought it was great to hear a couple of the new b-sides live. I really have a thing for Cool Thing, so I was very happy to hear it, and Cheap is of course a great song too.
Daddys Speeding was no surprise, since it had been announced on the press conference, but it was still a great treat. The Next Life proved that Brett’s voice may not always sound exactly as it did once (which I’m not saying is bad), but he can certainly still do that kind of sound, and did it with this song - which was lovely to hear. Can’t Get Enough could have been the theme song of the night, cos we certainly couldn’t get enough. The crowd was great, and responded well in spite of the fact that most of the songs were less well-known ones – must have been true fans, most of them.
The band themselves were also full of energy and seemed very happy. I caught a few little mistakes (missing lines, the same line song twice when it should have been replaced with another the second time) – but who really cares? They were wonderful! I wish I could remember more of the small details of what they said and did, but a combination of being a little distance away from the stage, having had some beers, and just the sheer excitement of hearing all those great songs, has affected my ability to remember all the little details. What has made an impression was the general great atmosphere – and I suppose that’s not bad at all! >> Setlist: Love the Way You Love This Hollywood Life Cool Thing Europe is Our Playground By the Sea Cheap Indian Strings Daddy's Speeding Killing of a Flashboy Starcrazy Together Down To the Birds The Next Life encore: Trash Metal Mickey Can't Get Enough Beautiful Ones >> Source: Danielle Bekkar, Ditte/Tauriel
