Couldn't wait! The sun shone a little when Thomas and I arrived in Esbjerg in our VW 1,8 Golf directly from the lonely highway. Esbjerg is the town with the biggest harbour in Denmark. Sometimes the town smells of rotting fish. But not today thankfully! Suede were in town to start their first of seven shows on the Green Concert Tour. A tour that will bring them around almost every little corner of the danish summer landscape.

At the Green Concert Tour Suede were the only foreign band to perform among danish acts like Malk de Koijn, Mew, Carpark North, Junior Senior, Lars HUG and TV-2. The Green Concert Tour is sponsered by the danish Beer brewery gigant Tuborg (owned by Carlsberg) and the profit of the income goes to the danish fund of progressive muscular atrophy.

At the front some hardcore fans could be seen gathering together, some three hours before the show started. They had to listen to danish acts Junior Senior and crooner Lars HUG. But the audience in the back didn't seem to bother at all. They just sat on the ground and talked while drinking expensive Tuborg beers. But it's fair enough - it's for a good aim - the expensive beer.

Suddenly the clock was six and a recorded intro mix of Campfire Song was heard. The noise drowned the whole of Esbjerg, almost down to the fishermen in their fishermen ships. And suddenly Suede came on stage. The first number was Love The Way You Love. Last time I heard that tune was on Train in Aarhus in April. I love tghe way it sounds! A good opener.

Brett was wearing an old Armani t-shirt with three holes in it. It's from last year. He wore the t-shirt on the Skanderborg Festival (Smukfest) last year. Come on Brett, buy a new one! He also usud the usual Levi's jeans and CAT shoes. The band played very well, but had some troubles with the picnicers in the audience. They didn't seem to enjoy Suede at all. After Filmstar Brett shouted: "It's not a fucking teaparty - stand up!". But they didn't! Sadly enough this had a negative effect on Suede. The band left the stage without encores.

Anyway. Suede delivered a fair show. I almost gasped when I heard Attitude. A very simple song (written in about 10 minutes - according to Suede, whom I later talked with). It's a catchy little song, very simple. Mat plays his bas and it sounds just great!

After the show the Suede members and crew got some sponsor food in the provisional backstage tent and left Esbjerg, the fishermen, the crowd and the hardcore fans for Odense, where they stayed for the night at the high-class Grand Hotel. Later in the evening they were seen eating again on the fantastic Boogie Dance Cafe's restaurant Birdy's in midtown Odense. On Boogie's (a nightclube) the DJ's always - well at least sometimes - play a lot of Suede tunes. Odense is the birthplace town of the famous writer Hans Christian Andersen. We went there too. Not to see his birthplace but to seen Suede perform yet again! We have six shows left in the can!
