suede the beautiful band

Another British band...but this one's not 'new material'. Ready to be popular again after disappeared for a while.

Until this year British musicians are still successful. Even more singers and bands from this country of Princess Diana's appear. Their songs become hits everywhere. Like this music group, the owner of Beautiful Ones that is getting familiar in our ears.

glam rock

As their new single titled Beautiful Ones, this band has a beautiful name, SUEDE. The members have the look we can't ignore. Handsome, cool, and elegantly dressed in their every performance. About looking good onstage, Suede almost have no comparison. Black clad -- they rarely appear colourful -- neatly ironed clothes and tidy hair, since the beginning Suede have always appear glamour and beautiful. No wonder that the British press call Suede as a band who care a lot about their looks.
There's nothing wrong about looking neat. But drop all thoughts that this music group only have looks as their asset. Suede music is the music we have got to listen to. Typical European glamour rock music with electric guitar everywhere and complicated but enjoyable plot. Suede songs sound even more unique and special through Brett Anderson's thin falsetto vocals.

was once popular

The architect of Suede is Brett Anderson. The thin man who grew up in Sussex, England has always been crazy about music, especially the glam rock style of David Bowie and The Cure which was really popular in the eighties. In 1988 he decided to move to London with a hope that he could improve his musical career. Not long after Brett asked his old friend Mat Osman to form a band. Through an ad they put in a newspaper, the duet recruited a young talented guitarist named Bernard Butler.
This trio started to make music and played in music clubs with guitar and bass. Their music was enriched by drummer Simon Gilbert. Later Justine Frischmann, Brett's beautiful girlfriend who's good in guitars joined in. And so Suede were made.
A year performing around music clubs and building confidence, a bright star rose. In 1992 Nude Records offered a record deal to this group. Unfortunately Justine walked out and made her own band, which is still exist until today, Elastica.
When Nude Records made an audition for British reporters before they record anything, Suede were praised by the press. They were predicted to be 'the big thing'. Suede's popularity got higher through Brett's controversial statements, like confessing to be a gay or slagging the royal family. Even more fantastically, before Suede made any albums, a prestigious British magazine Melody Maker put Suede in their cover. Isn't that great?

runaway

In the same year (1992) Suede released their first single, The Drowners. Followed by Metal Mickey and Animal Nitrate. All three received extensive acceptance. So, music revellers would only have to wait for the 'explosion' when Suede finally released their debut album titled Suede which were sold extensively and became the fastest selling album in Britain. With 10 reliable songs, this album received a Mercury Music Prize.
Suede show tours following the release of that album proved that this group were not only a target of groupies (girls who are mad about musicians). Music critics had totally no doubt in complimenting this band. A few months later Suede released Stay Together single, an ambitious 8-minute-long song that strengthened Suede's glam-rock style.
On October 1994 Suede's second album, Dog Man Star was out. Unfortunately this album's selling was not as successful as their first album. Their fame faded out when later Blur and Oasis appeared. It's a shame considering in this album Suede's music was getting more various. Suede were getting messed up when guitarist Bernard Butler walked away just like that after fighting with the other Suede members.

ready to be popular (again)

Not many music group can last after being left by their musicians, especially musicians with the quality of Bernard and Justine. But Brett, Mat and Simon wouldn't give up. They reinforced power even for that they had to disappear for a while. Bernard's position was replaced by Richard Oakes. Suede also got a new member, Neil Codling, keyboardist who also does vocals.
Many music observers said Bernard's skills which had been Suede's strength for years would never be replaced by Richard. But when in 1996 Suede released their third album titled Coming Up, it was proven that Richard's techniques were excellent and could also be Suede's strength. The release of Coming Up was a prove that Suede are warriors who never give up. Brett, Mat, Simon, Richard and Neil are ready now to be the target point of music addicts who miss eigthies glam rock music. And ready to blast again, as pictured in Brett's lyrics of Beautiful Ones: High on diesel and gasoline/Psycho for drum machine/Shaking their bits to the hits...
