>> statement from brett!
From the suede.net forum:
I know there has been a lot of speculation and rumor about precisely what I'm up to so I thought I'd set the record straight.
Firstly I can confirm that me and Bernard are working together again. We've written about fifteen songs so far and even though it's early days I can honestly say that I believe the work to be up there with some of the best things we've ever done.
We have been rehearsing with a drummer and a bass player who will be part of our new band. I can't tell you what we will be called yet but it will not be Suede or Anderson and Butler.
We'll be entering a London studio to start recording in June so I'm hoping that you will hear something early next year.
Also I've been working on a solo album with a guy called Fred Ball. Some of you might have heard his Pleasure album from last year. The material is more programmed than the Bernard stuff but still song based.
Danish fans will have heard one of these songs, ' Love Is Dead ', at the recent Copenhagen show.
The writing of this album is close to being finished too but I have a less clear plan as to when it might be released.
WELCOME TO THE NEXT LIFE
Brett

>> brett's solo debut!
In Rock 'n Royal tonight Brett performed a brilliant new song called Love is Dead - followed by By The Sea, Trash, and The Wild Ones [especially for the happy couple, because it's the most romantic song he's ever written] - all with orchestra arrangement which gave the songs a beautiful atmosphere!
Listen to yourself: download the mp3s here!
By the Sea and Trash wasn't broadcast fully because on Radio P4 it was cut for the news!! On the other hand, on the slightly delayed broadcast on TV2 later, the other 2 songs [Love is Dead and The Wild Ones] weren't aired at all for some reasons! You can download the videos of the TV broadcast here [by Skydancer]!
Brett... congratulations for finding your demon back. We're looking forward for more!

>> how are they now?
Richard and Mat have been seen enjoying the recent gigs of a sizzling new London band The Boyfriends. Richard showed up on their Dublin Castle gig in January; while Mat - also Radiohead's Colin Greenwood - was at their Water Rats gig in February and was spotted talking enthusiastically to the band's vocalist afterwards.
Do check their website for soundbites and future gigs you can catch!
Simon was taking a vacation in Bangkok, where he was invited to be a Guest DJ at a club and did a radio interview. Alex is helping Patrick Duff with his solo stuff.
Meanwhile, Brett is presumably working [at least at early stages] on his solo project.
The Suede Information Service officially closed down at February 20th, and they parted in style in a closing party held last Friday [February 27th]. Good luck to everyone at the SIS, thanks for all your great work over the years.

>> brett's solo project
According to Xfm.co.uk X-Clusive:
An inside source has confirmed that former Suede frontman Brett Anderson has already begun recording tracks for a possible solo record enlisting the help of former Longpig and Pulp guitarist Richard Hawley and "…it sounds like Johnny Cash!"
Recently, Hawley had posted the following message on his website, "...I've been asked to co-write with Bret [sic] Anderson on his first solo outing, I'll keep you posted as things happen if you like."
Today (January 29) a source confirmed to Xfm Online that "Brett has been working on new material co-writing songs with Richard Hawley and working on recordings of least three new tracks in [Hawley's] Sheffield studios."
"Richard was quite surprised to be asked when Brett called him up, but [Anderson] said was a massive fan and would love to work with him."
Anderson, who claimed that following the break-up of Suede he had to get 'his demon' back is reported according to the source as "…Wanting to get back to basics, and to stop sounding like Suede for a while. He's really chuffed with the results - his voice is almost starting to sound like Johnny Cash! When people hear it, I think they're going to be really surprised."
And in even more surprising revelations, the singer has also been confirmed to be working with ex-cohort and former Suede axe-man Bernard Butler, with a collaboration as good as confirmed,
"Brett has, as far as I know, been writing with Bernard as well as Richard and working on at least one track together."
